How do I find DOM tubing for A arms?

Had a google for DOM tubing but cant find a supplier in the UK, tons of options for CDS.

As a good alternative to DOM I'm thinking T45, but again where from?

What material have you all used on your suspension arms?

Bottom arms that take all the load second hand land rover panard rods chopped up, the ball joints seize so people just throw them away so pop down to your local 4x4 garage and get something for £5

For the top I just used 3/4" erw, the same as used for my diagonals and it's not bent yet despite hitting the Armco and running slicks.

Got one in the garage, also got some rear radius arms. Was looking at them wondering what they were made of.

Surely CDS is "dom"? Loads of suppliers for that. For T45 try http://www.proformancemetals.co.uk/. On the other hand.... if your wishbone had not bent was the load enough to bend the chassis? At least wishbones are easy to make.


IIRC one of the longest threads on here contains furious arguments about the pros and cons of various options. Some designs are seriously awful.

The book specifies DOM over everything else as a disclaimer.

DOM is started from a flat sheet, rolled up them 'worked' cold over a die and mandrel. CDS is drawn from a single billet.

DOM has 10% longevity whereas CDS is 5%. This means DOM has more flex before the failure point.

Now, the sizes specced in the book for DOM are not available for CDS, it tends to be thicker wall. I'm not fussed about weight too much just want the best stuff for a good job

They bend on landrovers because they run full width so once knocked off road and a small kink develops then they bend, we used to sleeve them with gas pipe when racing.

He'll of a lot more load on a landrover than you will ever apply on a little car, I hit the Armco and bent to rack, the bones were fine.
