How many splines on Type 9 shaft
James - 21/4/14 at 11:17 PM

I want to order a new clutch for my Pinto with Type 9.

Parts place want to know how many splines on the shaft.

Anyone know, before I have to have the thing half apart? (I want to do the work at my mate's garage but will have to drive it there).

It's a standard Type 9 from a 2.0 injection Pinto engined saloon sierra.

I think the choices were 25 or 19 (I can't remember exactly) splines!

Thanks!
James

23
If my memory's correct,19 splines were for 1.6 4 spd cortina and mk1 sierra

Just done one and it had 23 splines.

23 splines on a nominal 1" (25.4mm) shaft.

The spline count was 20 on the light duty 4 speed boxes and the shaft was only 7/8" diameter.

As other have said its 23 splines on the type 9, 1" diameter.

this is the clutch you want for a 2.0 pinto

LUK made - OE spec. - as used by lots of stock car engines

as above type 9's along with MT75's, borg warner T5 & types 5, E & F all have a 1" shaft with 23 splines

the rest of the RWD boxes (2000E & type 2 & 3 ) have 7/8" shafts with 20 splines

there is a good little guide to each box here:
