Compression test - fubar'd?
Norfolkluegojnr - 24/7/14 at 07:26 PM

Right! Borrowed a compression tester to check my rough running cross flow.

1 - 150psi
2 - 125 psi
3 - 150 psi
4 - 150 psi

Am I looking at a rebuild ?

that much wouldn't bother me personally, id look at valve clearances before a rebuild!

did you do the test with WOT?

Maybe just a 'head job'

easily done in a day

But, if all the valves lap in easily, maybe you will need to pull the pistons and have a look at them rings.

I used to like working on the 'old engines' nice and simple.

You could try the compression test 'wet' and see if that changes things, then it could
help assist in the diagnosis without taking the head off.

Tested at WOT.

Little oil in no2 and I got 145.

So rings going on no2?

I'd run it and check again monthly
It's not a massive difference and things tighten up when hot

Probably tight valve clearances, I would chk them all and retest compression.

Thanks guys.

Will check valves at the weekend and report back.
