Duratec Problem
neilp1 - 25/7/14 at 03:36 PM

I had my IVA yesterday (which I failed) but while I was there my oil pressure was in single figures (psi) when idling. When I drove it home the oil pressure was going to 20 psi up to maybe 35 psi. I'm running 5w30 oil.

Also the car was running horrendously hot, up to 140 deg at one stage when I decided to switch off. I'm running a polo radiator but have nowhere to bleed the system, so I’ve just purchased this http://tinyurl.com/ouu2p8j which I will use to bleed any air.

Anyone got any suggestions what it may be.

I'm running a digidash 2 with all the senders from ETB.

my oil pressure is about 20 tick over and 40-50 when hot and running with revs duratec are a b66er to bleed and get the air out mine used to get hot first couple of runs and then settled down and has been great since even our duratec race engine runs fairly low oil pressure and it has been newly built keep an eye on it for oil surge that could be causing you some bother what sump did you use.

Sounds like you have calibration problems as there's no way you could have 140c without blowing coolant everywhere. If the water temp reading isn't true then the oil could be the same.

How do you have it plumbed, that it can't self bleed?

I have raceline wet sump fitted.

Well it was hot enough to melt some of my wishbone bushes. I will take some picture tomorrow of them and how I have it plumbed in.

My Duratec runs at 45psi fast idle, never had any problems getting air out it self bleeds fine.

I have used a Seat Leon radiator bit bigger and bit thicker than Polo.

now its cooled how much water has it used top it up and try again i have an escort radiator but race car has polo radiator and that works fine

mines only running a cortina rad... self bleeds fine with a home made water rail

Guys I will post some pictures tomorrow for you to look at to see if I have it plumbed in correctly.

It has used very little water, still above min mark.

The stat should open at 85 two reasons this may not happen-

Its an ECU controlled one - needs changing to mechanical type.

Or

You have blanked off the bypass pipe it needs the flow through here to warm up the stat.

Bypass pipe is in and mechanical stat fitted.
looks like its plumbed in as per your sketch

Guys I had the car running yesterday for about half an hour with bonnet & nose cone off. Oil pressure and water temp were fine with fan coming on when it should and blowing the right way!

I think my problem is under bonnet air flow and the need to add some bonnet vents, so I'll be doing this once I have passed the IVA.

Cheers
