Aux Fuel tank thoughts?

ignoring the fact that these pics are from my old red Xtreme, the Orange v8 is on it's way to being EFI and is a bit of a fuel guzzler.

the tank is about 35l and I got with the carbs about 100miles out of it. This may go up a bit with the EFI setup, but lets assume not.

Filling up every 100miles is too quick, so aside to knowing I need to add a swirl pot, I was thinking of adding an extra fuel tank in the boot and filling it from the one at the top.

I normally run with a 5l jerry can in the boot, from a risk point of view, so adding a 10-20l metal tank perhaps come with little or no more risk as long as I ensure the base of the boot is stong enough..

thoughts ?!

I had an outboard motor tank off my boat that was a snug fit in the 'boot space'. I just used a couple of small ratchet straps to hold it in and added another LP fuel pump to top up the original tank.

that would be a quick solution, but I am thinking it will be at the bottom of the boot and I would like to be able to fill it up without taking the tank out, if you know what I mean!

A friend of mine, Steve had a standard Westfield tank. The range issue was similar to your own, he had someone weld up an extension tank on top of the original. Obviously punching a hole in the one below the filler is where the boot box was. It looks bazar from below but solves the range issue. He has been to Applecross at least twice with me. I will get him to post on here if you are interested. I believe Bryn Jones Allyfab in Chesterfield is your man. He did my custom tank in the Sylva.

If you look in my photo archive , under recent developments , there are some photos of the tank I added to my MK. I used a small fuel pump to be able to pump fuel to the main tank , by using non-return valves it works a treat......

I am coming to the thinking alike your very tidy install, is to not try and have the top tank fill the lower and just pump fill the top one and add a second filler point to the car.

have to see how much time I have to do the work (once I have made sure the bottom of the grp boot is strong enough)


The main feel I get is that from a safety point of view, no one has come up with any extra concerns.

Where you're intending putting it is where the majority of sevens have their tank anyway. There's usually some chassis members there but in most cases not very substantial ones. Maybe you could add something there.
