Clutch Change Advice
johnemms - 22/12/14 at 03:17 PM

Okay.. last year I put in a Blacktop with 1800 flywheel & Mondeo pressure plate
Best upgrade ever.. 155bhp on the rolling road.

However..
Giving it the beans ..
Especially when 2 up the smell of clutch tells me it isn't up to the job.

So do I buy the deal from Retro Ford ?
Flywheel & Standard 2.0 Pinto Plate kit for £198
Or Flywheel & heavy duty Plate kit for £288

Has anyone used or bought the standard kit and used it on a track day only to find they should have spent the extra 88 quid?
Just wondering if I'm being overkill & overspending
Cheers Guys..

Have a good Xmas to all ...

ps .. bought this to fix the drip on the gearbox .. FORD TYPE 9 GEARBOX TAIL HOUSING BUSH &' REAR OIL SEAL KIT

a good quality 2.0 pinto one should be more than up to the job (and you can easily get uprated covers and friction slaves if need be) but i would't have expected the mondeo one to give you any issues unless its a cheap nasty one... the cheap one i stuck in my 1.8 focus was really bad - not much better than the worn out one it replaced (i've had lots of recommendations for 'Luk' stuff)

Ime running similar spec to you with a standard mondeo clutch
Ive driven it hard this year inc sprinted it and had no issues - ime running 888's too
The way i saw it was a mondeo clutch is designed to be able to haul a car twice the weight while pulling a caravan,so it should be well up to a seven
I bought a new old stock motaquip off eBay for £25 - i wouldnt pay a premium for an overkill clutch unless i was running big power or racing it

I would put in a HD pinto friction plate, pressure plate a should be up to the job.

Yep .. cheap Mondeo pressure plate..
Ebay - knew it would bite me - but when swaping to zetec you have to save where you can..
Don't get me wrong.. Goes very very well ..
General spirited use seems fine..
Its when you take someone out .. you know you're going to push it that's when you can smell the clutch

So.. Standard 2.0 Pinto would probably be fine.. or last me till I kill the engine lol

When I had the 2.0 blacktop and mondeo clutch it used to slip in third and fourth on track. Mondeo flywheel drilled for heavy duty pressure plate and organic plate sorted it. Overkill maybe as the standard pinto stuff is probably OK to about 180 bhp.
