Hi all. New to the page so apologies if I don't do something quite right
In the near future I'll be building a 1600gt crossflow engine to put in my capri mk1. I'm just looking for some Advice on what fits and what
doesn't. And what not to do. My current plans for the engine are
1660 crossflow block
Precrossflow +60 pistons
Gt head
Kent 224 cam plus the duplex valve springs... Etc
Accuspark electronic distributor kit.
I also have a manifold for a single dellorto/weber 40/45. I have been told to go for dellorto for improved torque but should I need a 40 or a 45. And
how should it be set up internally. Hope this all makes sense. Anything that I might have problems with? Thanks.. Ben
What type of starter motor will you use? Pre-engaged or the older, x-flow inertia type? Your choice will determine which flywheel/ring gear you have to install.
I have a very good condition 2.8 v6 that's looking for a capri to go back in
I had an orange Mk1 v6 3ltr what a beast
224 cam is a good one, its quite high lift so you will need to check piston to valve clearance
pre cross pistons are flat top, you cant use these with a normal flat crossflow head.
dellorto or weber is just fine, for that spec a 40 will be fine, with say a 32mm choke, this will give the torque, not the type of carb.
again gt head is good for torque, keeps the gas speed high, maybe just go for a smoothed port design, dont port too big.
why bother when you can get something like this

To spanner in, a 1.6 Kent is not going to be exciting.
Having had a 3.0l capri I am biased.
As I said. It will be my first car so I can't really afford a v6. Thanks for the advice on cam/carb set up

Is your concern insurance or fuel economy?
A tuned 1.6 crossflow will swallow fuel, put in a modern injected silver/blacktop engine will go better and return better economy.
If it's insurance a classic limited mileage policy on a 40 year old car may not affect the price whatever engine it runs.
It's insurance that worries me. I looked into it and insurance is about 10 times as much with an engine swap
Ian. I should be okay getting parts for the carb. A friend of my dad's has a rolling road and was the one who told me about the dellorto carb
being better. He has access to most of the parts so that shouldn't be a problem
