Duratec Cooling System
davidimurray - 15/3/15 at 02:13 PM

With the exhaust now fitted, fired up the Duratec for the first time properly today. Drove it in and out of the garage so it looks like the clutch and all that gubbins

Haven't set the carbs up properly yet so a little out of balance and rich at the moment but seem good so far.

I let the engine warm up and the engine got up to 96C before I turned it off as a couple of coolant weeps appeared.

A couple of questions - what temp does the mechanical thermostat open at? Also does it matter if the thermostat hose is connected into the top or the bottom of the radiator?

Cheers

Dave

Isn't the standard thermostat controlled by the ECU? I got a new 82°C one from one of the many on-line suppliers of ford/ cosworth parts

The pipe from the radiator to the thermostat should be the 'cool' return i.e. the bottom one

The standard Duratec is operated by ECU if you have a ST 150 engine its mechanical.

If you haven't you need to change it to mechanical one.

The mech Start opens at 85.

Connect rad bottom to thermostat
