pinto mounts

Simple question. I'm about ready to drop the new built Pinto in the hole and I've forgot which mount goes where. The more I think the more confused I get. Long one on the passenger side?? HELP! I really dont want to be faffing about with this when I'm so close.

are you sure you can even use them in a 7 as they are very car specific and most folk have to make their own.

I think the passenger side usually is the longest due to the shape of the engine block not being symmetrical as it bulges next to the dizzy but that is in a production car as they have chassis rails either side of the engine.

In a 7 they can be the same length as you have much more room so the cylinders can be lined up dead center, plus since the gearboxes are symetrical so as to fit that in the tunnel your really want your engine in the middle of the car and not off to one side.

This pic probably shows the issue in a production car better and why they end up different lengths -

^^^ what he said

Just about every chassis uses different mounts, even the ford ones are completely different between the escort/cortina type and the later sierra ones....

Here's mine as it came out of the Granada (same as a sierra)

My crossflow has been on pinto mounts since I built the car in 1997-99, for the only reason, that I had some in stock

however, a few days ago, ive removed the old heavy pinto mount on the passenger side, and replaced it with a home brewed engine mount, that weigh's 2,8 lbs complete, opposed to the 6.5lbs for the pinto mount,
this was done so I can have a proper tubular exhaust and free flowing, as the pinto mounts would not allow this

The drivers side mount will also be changed, when the engine is taken out next

I fitted transit diesel engine rubbers which although larger are so soft it takes a lot of the vibration away from light cars

I think my dax ones are from a 3.0 Capri, but angled like the RS2000 ones and set into steel 'cups' to limit the movement...

if your not sure about your own mounts then why not crane the engine into place without them, then bolt them on once you see which way round will fit....
