I'm currently gathering the parts needed to build a 2.0l blacktop mated to an MT75 squeezed into my mk1 escort and it will run on bike carbs.
I'm happy with getting the zetec to run and have a list of parts to buy. but have a few questions regarding the choice of gearbox. there is loads
of info regarding the type 9 but the MT75 is a little patchy
1) which starter?
2) which flywheel and clutch
3) other than mounts, will the standard transmission tunnel be big enough to house the MT75?
lastly, if anyone out there has carried out the same conversion, it would be great to have a chat
thanks folks
Adam
1) The one that was on the gear box when in the donor. Or the 1.8 cvh Sierra. There is more than one that will fit and some of the same part number
that won't. One model number is the Lucas Lrs707 from memory. If you do a search it's the same one used for T9 or mt75 when mated to a
zetec.
2) Againg multi options here. I used a lightened 2.0 mondeo zetec fly and clutch that is 240mm. You could use the 1.8 fly and clutch or you could use
the 1.8 fly and re drill it for a pinto clutch.
Important bit is the thrust bearing. As the dohc fly is huge and deep anything else won't fill the gap There is two ways to do this.
The Westfield way is to glue a 20mm spacer onto the thrust bearing.
The Gbs way is to pull out the pivot pin and fit a longer one.
Both do the same job but the second is cheaper by a long way. I used the Westfield bearing.
3) I see it's been done but I have know idea if it would go into a standard low spec tunel.

On 1, with the Type 9 you have to take some material off the sump to fit it to a Zetec. Not sure if this is the same with an MT75, but worth checking.
Stu
Thanks for all the replies and info. I have an 1800cvh sump on its way. I'm told that will fit with no mods.
Do you guys recommend the type 9 over the mt75?
I am not a fan of the cvh sump as the newest one is around 25 years old. Not exactly bolt on with a black top as the oil pump is a little different
but it can be made to fit with a hammer. make sure you get the spreader plates.
Mt75 is cheap if you can find one and you wont easily break it. First gear is crap.
T9 is a little smaller and simpler but not as strong with out spending cash.
the cvh sump i have coming is brand new, i'm ok with a little cutting and shutting. T9 boxes are becoming harder to find now and surely they will need a rebuild
Didn't think anyone made a 1.8cvh sump replacement ?
i'm assured its new old stock
Slight deviation on original plan if anyone is reading this. A type 3 box has been suggested. What are people's thoughts on this?
