My part built currently has a Mk2 Escort x-flow. Have given it new plugs, leads, consensor, points etc, but it misfires badly when you increase
engine speed.
It starts without problem, and idles okay and fires on all plugs - it just misfires above idle speed.
Engine used to work okay, when I last tried it about a year ago...
Cracked, dirty or damp distributor cap?
Stuck advance weights in the distributor?
Just a thought or two...

What carb has it got on? does it misfire at all rpm above idle or is just at one particular spot in the rev range? I've had huge problems with 2nd hand twin choke webbers recently so if your using one of them I might have a few ideas
Sounds like a clogged/wrong primary jet or something, idle jet lets it run fine, but when you move of the idle it runs bad. Check it and clean it!!
It might sound pretty stupid but have you checked the points and is it a fomoco distributor, problem that I had with them was that the thin plastic strap bewtween the points rivet and the operating heel some times goes week or has no reinforcing rib down its back. The result is that it started ok but as it got hot or the revs increased then the heel colapsed leading to a teribble misfire. The cure was to change the distributor to a lucas unit from a pre-xflow.
Change the dizzy to an old Fiesta electronic ignition one.
The whole thing will run a lot better.
Got my one with coil for £15 runs lovley now.
