I'm redoing the hoses & rad on my 2L silvertop Fury, and I'm a bit confused about one part of the plumbing setup. It has a header tank
with pressure cap , no rad cap, and a small bleed pipe on the rad top.
I have this setup so far:
- thermostat large outlet connected to the rad top pipe.
- water pump outlet connected to the rad bottom pipe, and T-ed of near the water pump exit which goes to the header tank main outlet.
- header tank small pipe connected to the thermo housing top small pipe.
- I've also been told to T the rad bleed pipe into the pipe from header tank to the thermo small pipe.
So what I will have is basically this layout:

The bit I am stuck on is the heater bypass - previously it was plumbed with a single pipe looped to connect the medium size 2 heater outlet pipes on
the thermostat to each other.
But the diagram above shows it connecting to the pipe leading to the rad lower pipe (the upper red pipe).
Anyone know the definitive way that the thermostat should be plumbed in?
The car has no heater ofc.
thanks
James
Heater should run from the19mm bore connection on the hot (engine) side of the thermostat through the heater matrix to inlet side of water pump.
The inlet side of the water pump can be an inlet on the water pump or a T into the bottom radiator hose.
If you use a heater controlled by a water valve you must have an alternative path for the coolant to flow through from the hot when the heater is off.
The drawing in your post shows this as a red 19mm bore hose.
,
There's no heater at all , previously the 2 heater outlets on the thermostat were just looped together , so from what I can see there would have been no coolant flow at all until the thermostat opened, which seemed odd to me.
Something like this is what I have on a Blacktop so yours should be similar.
Just blank off the heater prots if your not using the heater
