Zetec not starting
Millworm - 3/12/15 at 06:21 PM

I recently done a conversion on my sierra, used to be a 2.0 pinto and the engine is in wired up and just cranks, fuel pump primes properly, just wondering if anyone has any information for testing where I should have power ect as somthing isn't right obviously. It's a silvertop on an early mk1 mondeo loom with a dewy ecu. I have a 12v at the centre of the coil aswell but haven't checked for spark yet. Just gathering information for the weekend so I can get at it in daylight. Cheers guys

Any chance the engine was from an automatic. That's the favourite gotya with a zetec.

What flywheel did you use ?

Mondeo 2.0 one, 2.0 clutch and mk1 tranny relaese bearing. Tried for ages to get a fez si loom to make it simpler but no luck. My mondeo one is crusty in places injector loom is quite bad

I've managed to get an escort cab loom to replace my mondeo one as it turned out a lot of the wires covering had come away so there where a lot of short curcits, was ok until I disturbed it by removing g it out the mondeo. I assume this loom being from a j reg will be even more basic than mine. Does anyone know anything about these looms

Ok then, I'll still take a look at the car this weekend in the daylight. And see if I can find what's causing it. What's the minimum it'd run with attached?

Use a 2 to 5 watt test lamp as a Noid lamp to check if the injector (a) have a constant 5v when ignition is on and (b) are getting a pulse switching them to ground the circuit when cranked. It should to be a conventional incandescent bulb lamp to put enough load on the circuit to test it.

You can use the same lamp to check the ignition for HT spark connect one wire of the lamp to ground and hold the other end close to the end of the plug lead.
