smokey engine! (wheeler dealer)
flyingkiwi - 18/12/04 at 12:52 AM

Just watched that program "wheeler Dealer" on Discovery, and they fixed up an old 1.9 gti pug. Didn't see the whole program but notice in one of their updates that the engine smoked a bit, so he replace the gear box linkage and hey presto, smoke disapears.

My little mx3 (1.8 v6) has taken up a nasty habbit recently of smoking, plus I have noticed that the gear linkage is a bit sloppy, so does this mean that all I have to do is fix the gear linkage to stop the smoke, or is this a load of TV bollox?

Sorry for the length of post and rambling, bored and rather drunk.

Any idea's would be a help as I plan on selling the car soon replacing it with a people carrier.

Must remember that dodge the next time I have an old banger to sell. Would it work with nackered tyres?

That show does make me laugh, real cheesy. I like it when they have an exhaust to change. Good old Ed just puts it up on his 4 post ramp and it's easy! Would like to see him do it using axle stands and a jack like 99% of Joe Public has.

And his labour is never ever a factor....

They screwed up really badly with the Suzuki SJ that they did.
Spent all the money, painted it, jacked up the axles, fitted a cage, big wheels and tyres.
Then they took it for an MOT where it failed on hopelessly terminal tinworm.

A bit of a fundamental issue I would have thought - before all the other work.
You couldn't buy such a bad reputation - even though I really like ed.

pogie has an o ring encorporated within head gasket design wich can allow oil to leak initially in to combustion chamber before gasket fully fails

Just re-read what I wrote, and realised what they did was a load of crap.

Look's like it will be the quick fix stop smoke, and fingers crossed.

Did you see the one with the Beetle / Buggy? Had new chassis, new front beam, new brakes, new buggy kit. Only original part was engine!!
Final buggy even had different reg no. to original Beetle and was sold to titles designer on show!!

Bit of entertainment though
