I want to bolt me engine and gearbox together and drop them in the chassis to mark out various places to drill for wiring etc. On the advice of BGH my
gearbox has been filled with oil long before I need it and I turn it over by hand every 4-5 weeks. When I tilt the engine/box to feed it into the
engine bay all the oil is going to pee out of the gearbox.
I don't really want to drain it and then re-fill it again when it is back out so has anyone a good idea on how to fit a temporary (but oil proof)
'bung' to the propshaft end of the gearbox? I can see this job getting very messy very quickly other wise!
I know that a brand new type 9 from Ford came with a plastic came pushed into the oil seal at the end of the gearbox...and these now sell for silly
money (>£30) on ebay from time to time
I used a 35mm film canister, wrapped with a little tape to make it the correct od,. perhaps a pill bottle might be the right size as I imagine that
35mm film containers are getting rare!
hth
Good idea......I think I might have one 35mm film canister in the loft in a random box I happen to shift at the weekend!
would these fit?
