trumpets in a pippercross airbox

So due to noise i am swapping out my px600 that pokes out of the side of my bonnet and going for a px airbox with integral filter and cold air feed.

The concern I have is the air flow for the trumpets. You can gain or loose huge amounts of air, and therefore power, due to trumpet length and design.

I currently have trumpets matching OEM length and optimising the end piece. So in my eyes the best design you can get especially with the cold air feed.

Due to space it looks like ill have little or no trumpet length once i squeeze the airbox under the bonnet but still have turned ends so not all bad. Apparently shorter trumpets optimise top end bhp but you loose out on bottom end torque.

I would be supprised if I dont notice a difference but it may actually be better for my use now, so not a bad thing.

What I would like to know is does anyone use the pippercross airbox and allow trumpets to poke through into the chamber of the box?

Any concerns with leaning out of chamber 4 and rich on champber 1?

Any other thoughts?

I think they quote 45mm as a max length across all inlets.

If you are running throttle bodies with alpha-n fuelling, then you will need to get it re-mapped if you change the induction length.

Hi I used these Dellorto Weber DHLA DRLA DCOE IDF 44/45/48 trumpet 25mm long top quality UK made they work well

Thanks for the pics. That's what i was thinking of.

I need to check they fit my stock 4age ITB. They are not cheap though.

I'm running a PX600 box with trumpets on my 16v 4AGE. I can't remember the length of them but will check at the weekend when I go home. I've no hard evidence that they affect performance but the reduced induction noise does mean I give it more WOT than when on foam filters, and that is just road driving.

The other option is the ITG Trumpet Tray

This could then be topped with a Reverie Zolder box.

None of this is cheap however.

I have a pipercross airbox & gsxr throttle bodies, I am planning on using the original gsxr rubber trumpets in the back plate, interested in the comments on this thread as my gsxr trumpets are rather short.

My stock 4age ones are bent 90 and about 80mm long, unless i offset the back plate and have the box very close to the stack mouth they won't fit in. That's why i was just going to go with 25mm straight ones.

Hi I mounted them using these clamp rings from DanSt engineering.

Just measured the trumpets on mine and they are 40mm long.
