Does anybody know what a good rev limit would be for a 2 Ltr Pinto, it running R1 carbs and rebuilt to more or less standard spec with cam head
upgrades planned.
I have an Omex rev limiter and want to set it up

Rods are the limit on a stock engine - the early ones are slightly weaker than the later ones too
The early rods are good for 6700rpm, the later ones are good for 6900rpm (according to des Hammill's book)
which kind of pinto do you have ?

My stock non-injection 2.0 Pinto rebuilt with standard internals and a Weber 32/36 DGV carb revved to around 6,600 if puched, but I used a self
imposed limit of 6,300 for road gear changes. I didn't have a rev limiter fitted, just a small red sticker on the rev counter.
Without a rev limiter I suspect the fuel delivery system will be the limiting factor to revs - i.e. when the system cannot deliver any more fuel to
let the engine go further.
I had a 2.1 with a big head and 45 Dellortos. On the fury exhaust, not a super flash one. I regularly hill-climbed at 7500 RPM, and sometimes hit 8k.

Hmm would that be the des hammill who suggests increasing the pinto ports for improved performance LOL
Ford max intermittent revs is 6675 for the 205 -
If your engine is stock then you're way past peak power anyway so there's nothing up there but expensive repair bills.

It's the rods that are weak and usually the bolts will let go so fit some ARP rod bolts and live a bit dangerously
On the road you only ever touch the high revs for a moment, it's sustained high revs that are the problem so you would life the rods and replace after a season
