Morning all,

I think my solenoid has gone pop. It still engages but the current drawn through the solenoid trigger wire is very high.
To me it seems like some coils have burnt out and shorted inside.

So I guess my first question would be does anyone know what the resistance is meant to be?

Secondly, I cant seem to find a replacement anywhere. I came off a 1.8 cvh from a sierra, but searching on ebay shows a very different shape of solenoid. Can anyone identify this:

A pre-engage solenoid on its own draws a huge current 35 amp or so peak in-rush current, which then settles down to about half that figure. Some of solenoids are wired to earth through the starter motors(for example Lucas) others (mainly Denso) don't and some starter solenoids have two windings a throw in coil and seperate hold on coil thus combining the two styles of grounding.

I should have added did you test the battery for a dead cell ? the symptoms are the same. With a dead cell battery voltage key on is almost normal but plummets below 9v to 6v or so when the starter is operated.
