Snapped throttle cable
hazardpro - 18/10/16 at 07:35 PM

Hi all - just managed to snap the throttle cable on my MK Indy.

I have no idea what its from or where to get a replacement!

Mk Indy
Zetec black top

Cable length is 33"

Pics of both ends.

Any help sourcing one much appreciated!

Wanted to try to get out in it this weekend :/

Good chance it's custom made.

Just get yourself a new length of inner cable and solder new ends on to fit your throttle pedal and throttle quadrant.

Then once your new cable is on check you are not over pulling it with the pedal,if it hasn't got a stop on the pedal fit one

I just used a pushbike rear cable for mine, you can get inners for a couple of £

try taking it to your local motor factor shop.

I have one near me and they had boxes of old throttle cables, and they let me go rummage.

I am just about to replace mine after it did one worse than snap - jammed at full throttle,.... ooops - screaming zetec at 8k!

Anyway, 2 return springs fitted and a £1.50 bike brake cable - from Wilko - and all will be as good as new

That looks OEM to me, check if it's from the donor

If it is galvanised, get rid if it, 50p more will get you a stainless steel cable.

I bought a similar repair kit to this one

New Oxford Motorcycle Bike Emergency Temporary Cable Repair Kit & Aluminium Case

and when my throttle cable broke last year, used some of the bits to make a new one

it was only a temporary measure, but still on the car !!

you can also use the metal bit from inside an electrical block connector to join the wire up or be an end.

it has been working a treat for me for 4000 + miles

I've just used one of these for a new inner on my BMW outer-

FIBRAX Teflon Coated Barrel / Pear Nipple MTB / Road Bike Brake Cable Inner Wire

It comes with 2 different ends. Choose which is best for you and snip the other off and replace it with something like this-

Solderless Nipple 7mm Side Screw Motorcycle Cable Wire Screw On Pear Grubs NPL2
