Rover v8 overhaul/checkover

Hello,

my v8 seven has been built now for 18 years. in which time its been pretty reliable and dont 8,000 miles.

There are a couple of issues emerging now and i wondered if anyone know of a recommended place in the east mids that would take a look at it and carry out some repairs and preventative work?

It started off as a carbed p5 engine, then got a hotwire injection system from a range rover and the local garage was struggling with it earlier which makes me think i need ti look elsewhere.

I dont want to just trust to luck and end up running in problems over the next couple of years, chasing things going wrong and would rather try and pr-empt that, if it makes sense.

any local ish places?

What problem are you experiencing?

If it sounds hollow then maybe camshaft has lost its rear lobes, the p5 is not the best lump... Small valves and 10.5:1 compression ratio.

The Hotwire is pretty robust, usually a poor Lucas temperature sender will make it hard to start and run very badly, as it still has a distributor new rotor arm and cap may not go amiss. The injection is not sequential just throws fuel in based upon throttle position, Hotwire feedback and temperatures.

It will I guess confuse garages that cannot find an OBD port.

Also check the throttle spindle for wear and the seals for having gone hard and split, you can still get new from rimmers, I bought some a couple of months ago then decided to use the thor system, but either condition will effect mixture and running.

The injectors could have become clogged, those short connector hoses deteriorate, harden, and flake internally.

The throttle position sensors have be known to fail too, but its easy to check its workings with a multimeter.

Apart from that fuel pump, filters etc. should be standard service items.
