G'day to all those using R1 carbs on car engine. Connected up my R1 carbs, to try and fire up. Uh-Oh!! Fuel seems to be coming out all over the place. My first reaction - "You've connected up to the water coolant/heater inlet!! ". But I think not - (maybe??).

So please can you help me to verify the correct fuel inlet connection? Advice will be greatly appreciated.

what fuel pump are you using?

Also check the float valves. If the carbs have been sitting for a while they can stick open.

Also, as Gremlin1234 suggested you need to use the correct pump, ideally from an R1 but any 600cc+ carbed motorbike pump should do.

Im 99% sure my 5JJ just used gravity feed so you really need a very low pressure pump .5 to 1 psi.....

Am using Facet old-style fuel pump. So, I guess that this may well be too "big" for bike carbs? Also have fuel pressure regulator fitted (but no gauge). Will search for alternative bike fuel pumps.

Thanks for all your suggestions. Has anyone found a "universal", or generic fuel pump, which would be suitable?

Your best bet would be to find a bike pump - low pressure, high volume. Originally I tried a Facet with a pressure regulator, but it was just too complicated. A bike pump just works...

Fitted bike carbs to a crossflow locost a while ago using one of these pumps. It's been spot on. Correct pressure and self regulating.

I've got the R1 pump sat on my bench off my car that the carbs came off
open to offers

Ref the fuel connection it's the one facing down,near enough in the centre of carbs

Any carb bike pump will do you, most are made by Mitsubishi anyway.

Should I remove the fuel pressure regulator, after fitting the bike fuel pump?

There is no regulater on the bike,so I would say yeah remove it.
