Hi
My Honda 1600 Twin Cam equipped Rover 216 GTi has developed a curious fault so any advice greatly appreciated.
Starts first time every time. You then drive any distance, stop, get out for a short time. Get back in and though the engine will turn over it
won't fire.
If you switch off, wait about 1 minute and then try it will start first time again.
I cannot understand what the problem could be.
Any ideas?
I have thought about fuel starvation/evaporation but its a closed system. There are no error lights and its regularly serviced.
Any help gratefully appreciated.
Cheers
Mark
Sounds like an immobiliser problem problem to me. Probably Rover's fault! Does locking and unlocking the doors cure the problem?
Or maybe an ecu/sensor fault - but then that should give a warning light.

Hi Liam
No the immobiliser is a separate system fitted by a third party. There is no Rover/Honda immobiliser fitted and as you say there are no error
lights!!

i had a similar problem with my kseries 216. a mate told me it was to do with the cold start fueling adjustments. it sounds a lot like bullsh*t to me though
Hi marktigere1,
It's the fuel relay, they suffer from cold joints, It will get progressively worse, simple to fix though if you have a soldering iron.

Many thanks Scott.
Saved a whole lot of fiddling with my Haynes manual, torch and a multimeter.
Cheers again

I tried to post this already but for some reason it got lost even though I was logged in .
Most likely the distributer module not only do the symptoms fit but it just about the only thing that goes wrong with these cars. I alwayscarry a
spare dizzie bought £7.50 off ebay in the boot of my Rover 623.
Bad news is Honda no longer list it as a seperate part although I am told it is still listed for very early 90s Civics.
The other bad news is the single cam model dizzie won't fit the twincam as the body is different fitting BUT you can do a module transplant.

Definitely sounds like the fuel pump relay - my 205GTi suffered the same problem. I seem to remember the replacement being a bit pricey though.
