zetec sivcer top and black top sump difference

I have a black top engine and managed to damage the sump. The sump is off for repair so I decided to fit a spare modified sump that I had purchased a few years ago. I can not get the sump to fully mate to the engine block, it is about 8mm from sealing. My question is have I the wrong sump? Have I A silver top sump? As the damaged one is of for repair I do not have one to compare with.

Hey,

Use the silver top rubber gasket - its thick and bouncy

What I am asking is will a silver top sump fit a black top engine block? The sump has a thick gasket but something is preventing it from closing the gap

Assuming both were modified by being shortened, I suspect one is slightly shorter and the pickup is stopping it from closing all the way.

I had thought that, but the pick up is 10mm above the bottom of the sump

The silvertop sump is easier to fit to a Blacktop than the other way around.

How’s your old one modified ? And how’s the new one modified ?

To fit a silvertop sump to a Blacktop you would need the four Mains bolts that carry the windage tray and four 20mm spacers as the bearing caps are shorter.

A silvertop sump on a Blacktop needs material grinding out the mid sump to clear the taller mains bearing caps.

Just a thought has the oil pick up been modified to match the sump ?
