I'm in a particularly fickle mood at the moment... got fed up and put the car up for sale, then later decided not to sell it. Swapped the bike carbs for a Weber 32/36 DGV carb that I'd used previously, and after a few drives decided to put the bike carbs back on again (the Weber carb stinks out the garage after a run as the carb's reservoir has an open top and the smell permeates through the filter when the engine's hot).

Now the reason I took off the bike carbs was that they weren't working as well as I thought they should... but while putting everything back on again this evening I noticed that one wire had come adrift on the TPS connector and was sticking out in the air... I've just ordered a new connector so maybe, with a little luck, the bike carbs will work a bit better when everything is fixed. Fingers crossed!

These cars are never really finished, are they?

Note: I didn't wire up the faulty connector! I kept a few inches of wire on the original plug and soldered my leads to the ends. So it was Honda's fault...

I know one thing - I'm getting very good at swapping carbs, manifolds and control cables now! My swap from Weber DGV to bike carbs took about 2 hours last night, and would have been ready to drive this morning if it wasn't for the loose wire on the TPS connector. Hey Ho....

I had similar problems but in reverse

When I built the car, I had a 28/36dcd downdraft carb on the 1700 xflow, and it performed well, and that stayed for a few years,
I went down the route of twin 40's and although power was up marginly, fuel economy went down to low teens, and the smell of fuel in the garage was dreadful, starting from cold was a mission, as no choke, engine tractability, as in the driving was poor, until I hit 4k, all in all a bad move

So, im now back the the 28/36dcd, fuel economy back to 30mpg, power loss is minimul
engine tractability is as per any normal car, and just pulls from what ever revs,

The carbs were set up by an ex Mini rally specialist, and the carbs I used were his race ones from the 1960's so he should of known what to do
