Does the duratec engine bolt directly to a RWD gearbox like a zetec?
No. You will need a adaptor plate or bellhousing.
It will bolt to a type 9 with a bellhousing from Shawspeed, BPJ, Raceline, Titan etc. It has also been fitted to an MT75 with an adaptor plate.
Are you thinking of using one?
Be wary when buying a Duratec though there I have heard of many tales where are 1.8's being passed of as 2.0's (allegedly).
Cheers,
Colin

dont zetecs need adapters as well?
IIRC it is based on the Mazda MZR (Mazda3/6) used in the Mazda B2300/Ford Ranger light trucks (USA), mated to a Mazda gearbox. Not sure if it's
the M-series box (MX5, na RX7) or R-series (RX7TT, RX8) - former has integral bellhousing, latter has separate bellhousing & bigger &
stronger.
How does the engine compare size-wise to a Pinto?

Mazda's been pretty much owned by Ford for the last 15 years or so. So I still have to question WHY they've made the change...after all, the Zetec-S was a Yamaha design.

Another thing to watch out for with Duratecs. I have heard that the Focus ST170 is badged as duratec but is actually closer technically to a zetec.
Can anyone confirm / deny this? I would hate someone to pay a high (ST170 style) premium for a zetec.
