Type 9 Reverse Issue?
the_big_1 - 17/6/20 at 06:19 PM

hi guys,

Not sure if I am worrying over nothing or not.
I have just fitted the gearstick lever to my Haynes that has a 5 Speed Type 9. I rebuilt the gearbox a year or so ago.
The gearbox has never been fitted to the engine, just in my chassis.
So I can get all forward gears quite easy, no engine etc, but reverse is really difficult. Lots of hard shoving in and out before it goes in.
Is there an issue or is it because its not run with an engine etc?

Cheers guys!

Hi Guys,

Panic over. I thought there was ment to be a gasket under the lever, so made one. Took it out and all working perfect!

Great the other simple one can be the plastic saddle on the end of the gearstick prongs this wares out causing similar issues it is easy to forget to fit!

is the "push down" interlock giving you this issue its controlled by part of the stick
the fork on the end of the stick has to move down to clear a bit on the side of the hole/housing it goes in to stop you getting reverse by mistake its possible you cant get it low enough and should be a simple enough fix
