as i have the cambelt off, sprocket off etc, is it worth changing the oil pump?
I ended up heating the sprocket and its been given a good wack aswell! Also had to lever against the pump to try and remove the sprocket. Whilst there
is no visable damage to the pump, do i change it or leave it and just do the seal?
If i do change it, any makes to avoid or to go with? Its still the original Ford pump on the engine.
Ta
Do you know the history of the engine Eg If you had it running was the oil pressure ok?
If you do want to change it Burtons and any decent engine component supplier should be fine
yep, been running it for the last 3 years and no issues with pressure.
There seems to be a lot of people saying that the aftermarket pump gears shatter on the zetec, which is what i dont want to happen!
Is it a case of "If it ain't broke don't fix it?"
I guess swapping it would be good insurance, but are you then going to check the big end bearings?
It can start with one thing and then develop quickly...
Just me but when I've got a sump off an engine, if I want to have an idea on the state of the bottom end of it I have a good check in the bottom
of the sump pan for any bits of metal etc and I drop off the big end and main bearing caps the furthest away from the oil pump to check their
condition
its the fact that its been heated up, which is not much of a concern, but the shock etc from having to remove the pulley, which involved levering and some brut force with a mallet and chisel!
I'd be checking the crank to make sure there's no damage and check the surface of it where the oil seal has been
