1 for the crossflow engine experts ........

Can a 1600 cc head be fitted to a 1300cc engine. ?

Many thanks

Yes if you have the type of head that is flat , not sure if you have the chamber type heads

if I remember correctly, changing heads between engine sizes would allow you to mix and match compression ratios, but that may have been triumph engines rather than ford.

or maybe bmc engines A series

Hi rusty nuts , yes both are flat heads with combustion chamber in the head of the piston , so sounds like it's doable.

Gremlins 1234 - I think in my case , I would have to change the pistons to alter the compression ratio .

.....was just considering a head swap , because the inlet valves are slightly bigger , so head would flow better .

I did on my engine swap. Worked great. Just make sure you swap flat squish area for flat squish area. Russ

Hi trialsman .... (Russ)

Yes , my fitted engine is the 1300cc from a mk2 Ford escort with the flat head and bowl in pistons .

Replacement head is similar design from a 1600 cc with the larger inlet valves , not sure about the exhaust valve size.

Believe that some of the earlier heads had a semi chambered design , but have not seen this type .

MAKE SURE THE VALVE SEATS ARE HARDENED FOR UNLEADED GAS. RUSS

The 1300 and 1600 heads are the same. It was only the GT that had larger valves.

Current head hasn't got hardened seats, but using super unleaded and an additive , probably not ideal ,
but compression is still reasonable.

Hi joneh , the 1600 cc head must be from a gt , as the inlet valve head diameter is definitely larger ....
but didn't know that the non gt head valve sizes are the same. Thanks .
