MT75 Gearbox on a Zetec
ludsonline - 28/2/05 at 04:27 PM

Hi,
I have a 2lt Zetec with a 1.8 Zetec flywheel with a MT75 gearbox. What clutch & release bearing should I use?.

That's what I intened to do....
Im told you will need the standard zetec clutch plate ect with a westfield thrust bearing which is about £55...
This has been extended ...Has any body got any pics/info on these as I can turn a spacer up on my lathe if that's all it is?????You get a new bearing in the kit any way shame to waste it???????

Give Dunnel a call. They use a plate and cover which allows the standard Sierra release bearing which is a lot cheaper than £55. I'm sure they are standard Ford parts but what they are from i don't know.

Here is the release bearing Westfield sell for £55

http://www.westfield-sportscars.co.uk/shop/product.asp?cookiecheck=yes&numRecordPosition=6&P_ID=254&strPageHistory=cat&strKeywords=&am p;SearchFor=&PT_ID=77

If you do turn one up can you do me one?

Big Wasa

The release bearing that comes with a Zetec clutch kit will not fit the MT75 actuating arm, (at least the one I got didn't). I've got my original MT75 release bearing which I am modifying a la Westfield. As far as I can see Westfield use the MT75 bearing, (which I was unable to source as a separate item)

I used my original 2ltr zetec flywheel with a new 2ltr Mondeo clutch kit.

I then too the MT75 clutch release bearing that came with my gearbox and attached a spacer that i turned up in steel on the lathe.

Tried to do an exact copy of the westy on with the bit in the middle wasted away so as to save weight.

The spacer needs to be 19mm long (scaled off the photo on the westy site).

The spacer was then arraldited to the clean face on the release bearing.

Use the extra strong arraldite. Dry at room temp for 4 hours and then in the oven at 70 degrees ish for another 6.

If i was to make the spacer again i would put a slight locatong edge on the inside of the hole as trying to mount the spacer exactly centred on the bearing was a bit tricky.

Any way, all back together and clutch works fine.

Also for info, the best clutch cable to use is one from a 1.6 capri.

Cheers,

Doug.

What sort of end fitting is on the pedal end of the cable?

Cheers Mick

What about using a Sierra 1.8 CVH clutch kit as these were fitted with MT75 gearboxes, after all the Zetec is only a glorified CVH anyway. Should all fit and work without the need for a spaced release bearing.

I used the origional Zetec 2ltr flywheel, mondeo clutch, modified release bearing from Westfield. You will also need a spigot bearing (pence) to sit in the end of your crankshaft around the g/box input shaft. Do a search and you will find the part numbers in one of my previous posts

Some people refer to it as a cable banjo?

If you imagine a small banjo bolt on end of cable you are pretty close.

Finally found the big problem. Where I live all Sierras came from Argentina (South America) and the box is not the MT75, Its a Hummer box attached to a 2.3 engien also made in Argentina. To sum up, thimgs are getting complicated.

Wich other box can I fit to the zetec with an adapter plate?
