Do you have to remove the gearbox to get the engine out of a mondeo?
Is it easier dropping the subframe?
Not sure how you are ment to take these enines out?
lift the gearbox out with the engine then seperate them on the floor it's the easiest way
Is it easier dropping it out the bottom or bring it out the top
I'd consult the haynes manual but the v6 in mine won't come out of the top.
from what i can remember there is not enoughroom to remove the gearbox first, the best way with the mondeo is to drop the front subframe with engine and gearbox still intact, then strip on the floor, the escorts are far easier to remove the engine.
To remove a gearbox from a Mondeo you must remove the subframe. The bolts holding the subframe to the body sometimes sieze in the captive nuts. If this happens lift carpet from front and chisel out the soundproofing to show a small grill , cut out the grill and use heat and a spanner on captive nut. At the front mountings slice open chassis above the bolts, use heat again. Probably best to lower engine and gear box as an assembly.
remove all gearbox mounts leave in driveshafts and it will come out from top just did mine this way last week might after remove the 6 clutch bolts and prise clutch off through gap once bellhousing bolts are out
Unblot the sub frame with engine still attached and drop it out the bottom. Much easier than out the top.
