Is there any way I can get a 1998 engine past emissions when running carbs? I want the above engine as its only done 25k from new and is only £250+vat
and its the black top....But Ive already got my bike carbs and have spoken to Bogg Brothers and got the ball rolling on my manifold......If I fit the
zetec to the sierra donor and register the engine change will this do it or will emissions still go on the age of the engine when I put it in the
locost ? It will meet emissions in the sierra because emissions will have to meet the age of the car not the engine ?

The test is based on the age of the engine. if no proof of age then based on it being a new engine.
I know some bike engined cars get thru on carbs using a special cat and air bleed system.
My advice would be go for injection if you want a new engine or just get a pre"95 one, there are loads of good one about and even with 70,000 on
the clock they would still be as good as new, most will see over 150,000 miles before they start to wear.
If you want to use bike stuff then throttle bodies would be just as easy to use as you will need to run an ECU for the ignition anyway.

I can't think of any reason you couldn't get it through emissions on carbs.
Bear in mind you'll need a cat as well.
However, it will reqire a lot of tweaking of the carbs, and a lot of time in front of an emissions analyser.
To be honest it would nearly be easier to get the loan of an older engine, get it SVA'd then replace the engine.
Once you've got your car SVA'd with an old (pre 95) engine using high emissions, how do future MOT testers know to allow high emissions ?

So, does that mean that I can install a newish engine with a cat, get the thing SVa'd, then ditch the cat and do what I like without regard to emissions?
