Do I need receipts ?
big_wasa - 7/3/05 at 09:15 PM

Im goig to pick my new engine up on friday 2ltr zetec with 75k on the clock after my last motor turned out to be a lemon
Question how important are receipts for major components (ie engine) when it comes to registering the finished car? I ask because the lack of receipt may mean the lack of vat, if paid for with pound notes if you no what I mean

Just write your own.

if you can get recipts, it apparently makes registering easier - not a prob if u want a q plate though. i would be inclined to keep all of the recipts - ive put all mine in a folder, and going to plonk the whole lot on mr. SVA inspectors desk.

When Mr SVA arrived to inspect my house I plonked a 5" heap of receipts down in front of him, loosely sorted into "engine", "chassis" and so on.

He looked through for a minute or two, ticked his sheet, and carried on with the inspection!

I think it's a case of the 3Bs - "Bullsh*t Baffles Brains"!

It was the DVLO who checked this when I had mine done. SVA didn't check anything apart from the suitability and safety of the vehicle for its purpose. I too gave them an envelope full of receipts when I went to register and they never even opened it.

Sorry - typing gibberish this morning (who said "again!" ).

I meant Mr DVLA Inspector came to inspect my car at my house....

Humble apologies...

David
