How much fuel does the book tank hold, I just built the mainstructure, and about 1/2 way through I started to think about how much it holds. I am making a guesstimation of about 5 gallons (19 liters). I'm using a 13b engine which isn't exactly great on fuel. Ive heard reports of mpg as low as 18 and as high as 29, and this is on a 2700 lb car, vs a 7 which is a little over 1/3 of it's weight.

By my math my range should be (with rx7 weight) 90 miles to 145 miles. I know that because of the weight difference the number will be higher maybee 125 to 200 miles, but I was hoping to have a 300 mile range.

Kinda pissed that I used a bunch of my spare aluminum if it holds less than 5 gallons. I think that I'm gonna weld up one side and see how much it holds.

Anyway back to my point:
1) How big is the book size?
2) How big are the sizes that people who are already driving, and what is your range before needing a refill?

I think Derf's problem is it isn't a square shape. 4 or 5 gallons seems about right.

I have a 5 gallon tank and get about 125 miles out of it.

Quick Calculation based on book dimensions is roughly 26 Litres about 5.5 UK gallons.

I have been looking at tanks and decided to go ahead and build one stating today.
24" long, 10" deep at the bottom, 8" deep at the top, and 12" high comes to a whopping 17 gallons. That was my original thought so I will probably reduce the height to 10" I wanted to stay around 10 gallons.

A tank to your dimensions looks about right for capacity, I make it 11.2 US gallons (9.4 Imp gallons)

Ive got the plastic tank supplied by Mac#1 with the ZR kit, just under 7 gallons iirc. I wouldnt go less than 5 gallons for a road car, 20mpg sounds average so theres not a lot of range to be had.


I was lucky to borrow a Porsche 928 a while ago for a few weeks. It had a large tank but at 17mpg i was frequenting petrol stations a lot more than i would normally like (for some strange reason i did a lot of miles in it despite living 3 miles from work at the time!). Its surprising how having to fill up a lot becomes a chew when you have to live with the car.

I think I'm gonna finish the tank, even though I'm not happy with the size, just to keep moving ahead. I may build a bigger tank after I finnish the car, but for now it's alright.

1728 cubic inches in a cubic foot
7.481 US gallons in a cubic foot

24" X 10" base, 8" top X 10" tall =1.24 cubic ft or 9.2 US gallons

i also made my own tank

out of RVS (inox) i made then when trying to fit it could enter because of the rollbar..

soow took the 2 bars away from the back..putted in the tank.

and putted the bars back.

i made it 38liters
