hi. has anyone used the 1.8T VW group engine?
I don't know much about it, but I suspect getting a suitable gearbox to fit could be a real nightmare.
The only think you could do is get a box off a V6 4motion, but I can't see that being cheap, and for the aggrivation, you'd be better off using a
4A-GE, and turbo/super charging that.
Also, bearing in mind that the 1.8T is comparatively new, I can't imagine there's gonna be heaps of them going cheap.
If you're really in need of a challenge and wads of power, get a cossie, that'll keep you busy.

If you are asking the question because you have access to a 1.8T engine, then perhaps you should consider building a midengined car and fitting the
whole engine and VW gearbox transverse between the seats and the rear wheels

Also, being a relatively modern engine, the 1.8T has far fewer user-servicable parts, the ECU does a lot of adjustments on the fly (although you can buy PC software, the VAGCom tool for dignostics etc.) meaning that you'd need more than the basic skills to get such an engine running properly.
Where's the Locost spirit?
Mark to make your own VAGCom out of an old Escort speedo you will need .. . . ..
