how do i clean engine valves that have burnt carbon/c**p on them ?
steve
I spun mine in my lathe, using emery cloth to clean them.
This is not much help if you haven't got a lathe!
David
Spin 'em in an electric drill , use emery or wet n dry , but not on the seat area !
Or you can chip away with a knife and finish them off on a wire wheel....

Put em in a drill and spin em with some emery cloth. If they are a bit sticky spray em with WD to soften it up.
I usually clamp the drill in a vice to make it easier.

Not with your finger I hope David, but with it nailed to a piece of wood?
If you have one use an old valve as a chipping hammer , chip off the worst of the carbon, then if you have access to one use a bench grinder with a wire wheel to clean off the rest. If you haven't got a bench grinder try paint stripper or gasket stripper , excellent at removing carbon from heads and valves
paint stripper
someone has a good answer !!
"put them in a drill"
i did things like that when i was 15 !!
nowt wrong with putting them in a drill, does the job fine. People have been known to make very effective wasted stem valves like this! (needs considerable care though!)
