Hi,
I have had my Tiger Avon on the road since last thursday and to be honest its quick but nothing like I had hoped. . I know there is more to a quick
A to B car than acceleration, but for now thats what I crave. So how to I up the power, just now I have the alpha weber kit on a 2.0l zetec. I
would like to progress rather than change engine, management etc. I feel I opted for the wrong engine, but dont want to go back now. Unfortunatly the
funds aint unlimited. Could anybody give me a breakdown of what I need and what it costs. I kinda thought cams, verniers, head work. however what
about the ecu map. Is there much gain from just cams, which ones are recommended, also what about con rod bolts. If I can get good gains for the nice
side of £1000 I am very interested, but I feel I may be asking too much.
Sorry for all the questions, I am still learning.
Cheers
Steve
Are you using the twin weber carbs with the alpha setup ?
If so I think they use 40mm chokes to give the power at the top end at the expense of the low end running. When I first got my car on the road (Tiger
Cat 2.0L zetec) my carbs were running 38mm chokes 155 main jets 200 air correctors, 50F8 idle jets and 45 pump jets. It accelerated like a snail. I re
jetted the carbs to 34mm chokes, 120 mains , 125 air correctors, 65F8 idles and 45 pump jets (raceline and westfield recommended settings). My GEMS
ecu had to be slightly remapped at the bottom end to remove a flat spot at about 2000rpm. The car is now totally different, it accelerates very
quickly, loads of torque through the mid range with peak power at about 6000 ish rpm. All on a standard engine. In my opinion the zetec was the right
engine for my car. Perhaps you should call the people at Northampton motorsport (webcon alpha tuners). You may not need the wild cams and head work to
get what you want, perhaps remapping the ecu and some rejetting of the carbs (if you have them) my go most of the way.

With my new jetting and ignition map my car does the fookme scary fast acceleration thing. All you have to do pull away, quickly change to second gear
is hit the gas this takes you very quickly to 60mph change to 3rd and you are doing 90 mph before you know it. It runs out of steam at about 115Mph
but with only an aeroscreen I can't see anything properly over 90mph anyway.
ps have you checked your throttle pot ? If it is set wrong the ignition advance won't be working correctly affecting the cars performance. The
weber one is a pain to set up, very sensitive and easily moved out of place as you tighten it up.
Laughing gas? Some bolt-on Nitrous kits ar pre-set to yield 25bhp from the factory, and more with consultation about engine spec etc.
