As you all know I've been avin a few snags with the rebuild of my 2l pinto in my F27.
On start up , the coolant in the expansion tank rises straight away , with a few bubbles . up to the top. the engine hasnt even warmed up!
I have previously replaced the head gasket and bolts , and retorqued the bolts to the 3rd stage before starting the engine up for the 1st time , I let
it run for the required 15 -20 minutes, and switched off, I couldnt re-torque the head straight away, and did it the day after when cold to 85ftlb
I have today noticed a small amount of "white Mayo" under the oil cap ,and in the expansion tank,
Would the gasket have failed already?? after only 20 mins?
or do you think its the Bolts need checking and tightening again??? , any attempt to drive it and the revs drop and it cuts out,
any advice would be great!!
Its booked in for a rolling road sessiion next week and want to sort it out for then- before the summer finishes!!
regards,
Greg
Hi Greg
Have you done a comp test?
Bubbles in the coolant tank might be an airlock?
As for mayo, has the engine been stood for long? might have a bit of condensation in the oil

Hi Greg,
If you are happy about the static timing being correct, then it sounds like you might have an air leak or the carbs are way off on jetting etc. What
jets are you using?
Although yur best bet might to be to tow it to the rolling road and let them work their magic
Cheers
Mark
Hi Greg
Did you have the head crack tested and skimmed before refitting it?

Thanks for the replies,
update report!
re checked the torque setting on the head bolts- all ok,
took cylinder head off next- all not ok!!!
the head gasket looked like a sodding rainbow, loads of water and oil all mixed together!!!
head going to be crack tested and skimmed tomorrow me thinks!!!
I only took the old head off to change it for an unleaded one! , so I know the block is ok,
I feel a winter vx 16v redtop conversion coming soon!!
Regards,
Greg
Have you got the gasket on the right way up . Not that I've ever put one on the wrong way but it has been known to happen.
