Any one give me some recommendations for materials / supplier to build an inlet manifold ?
Need to mate a set of Blackbird carbs to a Vx 2.0XE.
Have heard that RS sell a high temperature composite material in both flat and tubes but couldn't find it on their site.

Mild steel , you can MIG it and its cheap.......

agree with dave that steel/mig will be easy. alternative is ally and either tig (not everyone can do it) or try that blowtorch ally weld stuff, foget
what it's called, there is a website for it somewhere or try a search on here.

you mean techno-weld Ned, but I'd stick with the steel, having tried both!
Try your MIG on Ally!
I did for my engine brace and it seems to hold together under no load at all so maybe your inlet manifold will too!
Its something to try anyway. QUite satisfying when you crack it (welding ally not the... tube / swaneck / etc etc)

I make custom inlets from all sorts of materials. Best stick to metal if you don't want problems.
Weld it up, then put it in a moderate oven(~120c) for an hour or so, before letting it cool and machining the gasket face.

For some reason, I really didn't consider mild steel....
Might give it a go, cheap and easy.
Failing that, I'll through a few quid at Bogg Bros.

ive just finished making one from carbon fiber and part of the original manifold, was fairly easy really but can be a bit time consuming and requires some skill. i would post some pics but me mates half inched me camera.

this pic is a bit crap due to being taken with me phone but give the general idea.

was done as a one off using foam pipe insulation and bit of pvc drain pipe pipe as a plug, the fome was just tucked inside the manifold and then i
wrapped insualtion tape roud it to make it smooth.and some 40mm pvc pipe joiners as the ends, which were just screwed to a frame to hold it all in
position while i laid up the carbon.
i used west epoxy and about 4 layers of carbon and cured it on a radiator. hopefully it will be able to stand underbonnet temps! when cured on the
radiator it felt about as hot as would get while attatched to the car so should be ok.
only time will tell.

Been looking at the standard XE inlet from my donor and may try to cut down and mate the bike carbs to it somehow. After looking at it again, it
doesn't look to bad a job...
you can do this with high temp polyster bolted to the cylinder head.
