What car would be the best donor for a 1.8 Zetec (obviously just the engine).

1. Mondeo 1.8 (i heard talk about a large sump or is it the same size as the escort?)
2. Escort 1.8
3. Escort 1.8 GTi
4. Escort 1.8 XR3i

Escort because the sump is about an inch shorter and the water pump rotates the correct way.
Did they make a Zetec version of the GTi and XR3?

cheapest would be the 130 spec orion..
the 130 spec escorts are very popular and hence hold there price..The differance between these and the lesser spec is the ecu and the cams. These come in the xr3i and others. You will be paying the extra for the cams as you will be dumping the ecu if you use carbs..

Make sure its a manual or you will not get a fly wheel and the vr sensor housing is wrong aswell.

As said befor avoid the mondeo lump unless you plan on spending money on the bits described.

Big wasa says it all.. Unless your lucky like me and get the 130 cams for little money for the mondeo lump. although i still need a chopped/escort sump.

Escort lump is easier, the water pump is usually the correct rotation and the sump is much easier to mod.

You can mod the Mondeo Sump but by the time you have finished there isn't much Ford Metal left.

Appart from the water pump and the sump there is little to choose from, however choose carfully there are three types of 1800 Zetec :

105 PS
115 PS
130 PS

As stated above the 130PS lump is sought after so its expensive, I gave up looking for a 130PS and bought a low mileage 115 PS unit, with twin weber 40's and dunnel ignition it churns out around 145bhp
