Zetec Conv.

For converting to a zetec, when i already have gearbox etc, what extra bits do i need with an engine?

Obviously i need:
1. Engine
2. Engine Anxcillaries
3. Clutch

Do i need any loom or any other components?

Ok you asked...........

ECU (ignition only or ign / fuel if using throttle bodies) and appropriate loom
twin side draught carbs or throttle bodies.
Mondeo 1.8 / 1.8 clutch cover and plate
capri 1.3 release bearing
escort 1.8 flywheel (if using 2.0L zetec)
suitable alternator
sierra 1.8 CVH starter motor (I think you can use the DOHC one too ?)
Electric fuel pump
Fuel filter / regulator
1.8 Water pump if you are using the 2.0 zetec (2.0l one rotates wrong way)
inlet manifold
exhaust primaries and collector
silencer

It won't be cheap (I know I've done it !)

However I wouldn't change my 2.0L zetec for anything now (...perhaps..no stop it....clear your mind... resist the evil, yes maybe a bike bike engine.........ahhhhhhh)

time to head for ebay.

My 2p worth...

Carbs on inlet manifold ( the most expensive part of the install)

ecu to run ignition (no dizy)

Exhaust manifold(again not much change from £250)

1.6/1.8 flywheel with clutch to match and the westfield thrust bearing for the mt75

The starter motor from the dohc sierra to match the gearbox..

Alternator.......Well you can use the standard one on new brackets but most will find a smaller unit and mount on new brackets.

escort sump or better still a lowered and baffled mondeo item (about £180)

Price is subject to how much work you can do your self and how much power you want and what you will do with it.

Very easy to spend a couple of grand.......

as a guide(Lotts ive missed)

I have to admit to going the whole hog with the 2l .But if doing again I would be going for a low millage 1.8l from an orion/escort/fiesta. and think I could get it down to about £500 for a reliable no thrillls install.......That would mean either being very lucky with finding parts or doing lots of fabrication...

Most will have an opinion .Its what works for you
