securing the fuel tank
JoelP - 26/6/05 at 07:13 PM

hi everyone!

my tank is is sat on two bars, with a bit of foam under each side. Whats the best (read 'easiest SVA compliant'!) way to hold it there? A belt pulled tight?! Is a belt alone enough or will it need more?

Cheers.

Straps made from aluminium sheet with self adhesive rubber strip stuck on between strap and tank. The tank needs to be mounted on rubber strips too.
Oh and thanks for the Sierra column shroud!
Cheers
Jon

Does this means that you can't have wings on your aluminium fuel tank. Do you have to have straps all the way around the tank?

As long as it's secure and mounted on rubber to avoid damage from vibration I don't think it matters how you secure it.

Mounting a tank using a flange isn't a great idea, it usually leads to leaks at the seams or fatigue cracks.
Using straps was the tradditional method but it isn't the only way, threaded bars through a couple of bits bit of "U" section will work well also.
