Fueling Bike Carbs on Zetec?
Chaz - 27/6/05 at 02:28 PM

I'm going to be running R1 bike carbs on a 1.8 Zetec, and i was wondering about fuel flow. What kind of fuel pressure will i be needing for an engine like this? Might touch on 135 BHP when finished. I'm looking to upgrade to 2.0l mondeo cams so probably get about 155BHP eventually.

The reason i ask is because bike carbs are gravity fed, so will too much pressure cause me problems? What type of electrical pump do i need, solid state???

You can use any fuel pump designed for carbs (up to 7ish psi).

Just make sure you fit an adjustable regulator and and turn it down to a couple of psi.

Too much pressure and you will push the fuel past the float needle.

If you go buy the fast fard mag artical on bike carbs ,They recon on 2-3 psi.Using a pump and regulator..I think the R1's are fed by a small electric pump..What spec engine did you end up with Chaz 105-115 ????

Get the fuel pump from the R1 or a ZX9r (Others may work) they are low psi as bike carbs run at around 2-3 psi as already said. You can use the existing zetec fuel injection pump with a suitable regulator but best to use the bike pump.
Let us know how you get on, As i'd like to try this on an Mi16 Pug engine. Also what size and type of carbs does the r1 use?
kwak ZX7 uses 38mm Khine CV, ZX9r uses the same but 40mm.
