I've read of people using the old fiat strada cap for a crossflow distributor but I don't know how available they are nowadays.
I read that too, Pete, and bought one.
Admittedly several thousand miles later, I discovered that Strada cap advice was bollox.
The Strada cap presumably fits accurately on a marelli distributor, but I can tell you it's only an approximate fit on a xflow bosch dizzy:
a it wears itself out and gets looser and looser.
b the timing wanders up and down.
I recently bought a side entry cap that was designed for my bosch distributor, as made for several models of Citroen BX and Peugeot 204.

So far as I know, Aldon distributors are Lucas units. If no-one tells you the right part no I'd go to a decent knowledgeable motor factor WITH
the distributor, get a properly matchrd cap and keep the part code somewhere safe for the next time you need to replace it. Halfords won't have
a clue unless you tell them the car make model and year.
You could take the distributor with you and browse through the distributor cap boxes.
Distributer cap alone can't alter the spark timing -- just the spark voltage

Try H&H Ignition solutions in brierley hill in the midlands. I bought my dizzy from them (lucas type - side entry cap same as aldon - come to
think of it, i'm sure they said they dealt with aldon one way or another).
Tel no is 01384 261500 or 07989 744351
They'll have tthe caps no probs.
