Alfa Romeo V6 sizes?
akumabito - 6/7/05 at 03:26 PM

Does anyone know the rough measurements for the Alfa Romeo 3 liter 24V V6 as found in the 164? I've been looking all over, but I can't find anything...

trev borg might know

what sort of power do those make, how much do they cost, how reliable are they, how many tunning bits are available and what sort of price ?

(just thinking of a friend who wants something around 2 - 3 litre pushing out min 300 hp and he's not afraid to super charge - ok, he wants to super charge)

akumabito - 6/7/05 at 05:10 PM

Power is between 210 to 230hp I believe, depending if it came from a 'regular' 24V or a Q4.. availability shouldn't be a problem, there are plenty of old 164's around.. reliability.. well.. uhhmm.. it's Italian..

I haven't heard about any serious problems with these engines though..

did they do a turbo version (so it can be super charged) cause that isn't enough ponies

There was a turbo version, but it was a 2 litre 12V, and made similar power to the n/a 3.0 24V.

A good (and healthy!) 3 litre 24V with cams, a good exhaust system (including headers!) and a good inlet system should be pushing out 270+ bph, and that's without reworked heads / valves!.

And it'll rev to 7300RPM easily, and it sounds absolutely wonderfull!

mind you, this is a mega $$ project with just about everything bought " off the shelf". Not really locost...

Site can't be reached.. blasted geocities accounts, always the same thing.. grr...

Trev Borg - 7/7/05 at 05:31 PM

I can only tell you the size of the 12v (only 190 - 200 BPH as standard I'm afraid), but if you want a whole lot of info on these engines, go to these site.

The cars I bought were complete, and cost £150, and £142. You can sell the bits from them for more than that.

The 24v is a fair bit wider than the 12 and wil not fit the locost tho'.

WWWwwwwwwwwwaaaaaaaaaaay to new

we're looking for something thats approaching end of life....... hence the volvo t5's etc slap a super charger on to get the required horses and bob's yer uncle (so i've heard)

NS Dev - 8/7/05 at 05:22 PM

who's this friend then Mike??????

Must admit I hadn't really thought of the Alfa option, dismissed it as not enough power but with the supercharger it might be feasible!!

MikeR - 8/7/05 at 05:29 PM

dunno - do you know anyone who wants a cheap 300hp engine to race with???

the prob with the alfa it seems is 5k to get the pistons etc for NA route, no idea about turbo pistons for the v6.....

(was wondering how long it would take you to find this thread)
