How many people are using these engines?
Was a Westy fitted with one on my last track outing. Thing was seriously rapid.
It was standard except Omex ign etc.
Woo Hoo my fav subject.
Yep I've got one and I really rate this engine. As light as these new fangled alloy engines but much more compact being a steel block.
The silvertop has the same bottom end as the supercharged engine so can be used for forced induction. Standard power is 142BHP in UK figures.
The blacktop has lighter pistons plus conrods and larger throttle bodies (48mm). So it revs more and produces just over 150bhp in standard form.
One of the biggest advantages are the factory individual thottle bodies. The equivalent Jenvey kit including fuel rail, linkage kit, throttle pot,
injectors and trumpets comes to £1100!!!
I'll shut up now.
The Toyota engines are great. Particularly if you want a car thats good fun on the road and track. I have a tuned 16v in my Raw Striker and a friend
had a standard 20v in his. Nothing between them on the track. Both now building R1 engined cars mainly for track use.
Ben.
Does anyone know what cars in the uk were fitted with the 20v toyota 4a-ge? I;ve got a good condition 16valve version from a mk1 Mr2 waiting to go in
my Sylva Mojo...
Cheers
Andy
The 20v engine was not generally available in Europe.
It was only available in Japan and USA.
It is possible to import them as a half cut from Japan, but I should imagine they are getting scarce these days.
If one became available to you it would be a great motor to use, but I would doubt it's viability as a cost effective purchase if imported.

I'll sound like a gramahone soon but ....
Speak to Fensport as the last engine delivery I saw there included 8 blacktop 20Vs.
The blacktop was in prodiuction right up to 2000 so they are out there.
If you want the ultimate 4AGE the 16V will always win in the end. The 20V is restricted somewhat by the 20V head and a relative lack of tuning parts.
Here in S.A. the Toyota 20v is still freely available, and was in production up untill 2002 when it was replaced with the 20v VTLI (141 KW).
However the cheapest route still seems to import used from Japan. A few guys here have brought in the supercharged engine and slapped on a turbo
(seriously quick!)
Tuning parts are available, however are costly.
Cheers
Wow its just what u r lookin for! in 16v form
From what I can gather, Mel at Raw Engineering can also source for you.
He'd certainly sourced the one that I saw, and supplied bellhousing, OMEX stuff as well.
Also bloody nice bloke!
I don't want to do Mel out of sales but he gets them mostly from Fensport.
He didn't realise the blacktop was better cus he had been told by an "expert" they they were the same internally.
Since driving my Striker with one he knows now that its definitely better than the silvertop in standard form
If you want to buy a kit and get good fitting advice then buy from RAW. Go to Fensport if you just want the bare engine.
I know here in the States, the toyota guys seem to have luck at least finding the 20v heads, so they put the 20v head on the 4agze block (i
think?).
That might be something to look into.
My uderstanding is the suprcharger block (7 rib block) ws adopted for all the late 4AGE engines. The rods are the same too except for the blacktop which has lightened rods. The pistons will differ depending on the compression ratio and number of valves.
