Hi, Im on the lookout for an exhaust manifold for my zetec locost..
I dont have £250 +++ to spend at the min . But ive seen this 4 into 1 manifold in the States which I can have sat on my door step for around £150 all
in..
4-to-1
Question is will it be any good for torque and bhp?
I have seen that most manifolds of a 4-to-1 type have much longer primaries..
It looks well made and would be easy to install as you would only have one pipe exiting the body work..
Any comments or better still experiance of these manifolds please as I defo can't aford to buy twice
This is the reason for my last question on if the newer manifolds fit the older engines.........
Thanks in advance................warren
what ya could do is try and find some web site which tells you the best length of the primiary and see how far off they are but i could be totaly
wrong

When I was messing around with my exhaust I used an excel exhaust calculator, I believe it came from 'Timf' on here, my 1st home made pipes
worked out as peeking at about 9000 rpm , not ideal for an 1800 CVH!!!,
From what I have heard the zetec likes long primaries. The best system is 4-2-1, but a good 4-1 is probably just as good. Just to give an idea the
primaries on mine are probably over 3ft long.
I got my whole system made to measure in s/steel for £350 from engine to tail pipe. Doing it this way you can decide on the route you want it to take
(over/under top chassis tube) and it's all sorted in one go with no hassle getting as silencer to fit.
The one on Ebay is fine for the production car but will strangle the power.
We got a second hand Vauxhall XE manifold for more or less nothing, got a flange roughly profiled and drilled it ourselves, welded it on (the middle
primaries have to be pulled in slightly but its very close to being right), had to shorten primaries and lenghten secondaries to get it to fit
(non-locost car), but the engine makes the beans (210 bhp, 175 lb/ft) and the exhaust cost very little but time. Lots and lots of time.
And some more time.
If you want I can measure the lenghts to give you an idea of what we ended up with
we have just made an exhust for a zetec, 4 into 1 and dunnel said that the length for about 180 ish horsy power should be between 26/28 inches

edit ours is a 1.8

The primarys look far to short to me , you would do just as well to cut and shut a couple of standard manifolds.

Hi,
I could be wrong but that looks like a turbo manifold to me?!
The primaries are very short and I would suggest that your peak torque output would be shifted towards the lower end of the rev range and top end
power would be compromised if you used it on a n/a engine.
Cheers

No its defo for naturally aspirated..
I think ill hang on for a while longer and get the proper exhaust for the job...
