Does anyone have any comments on the layout & routing of my cooling system?
It seems to work OK, but I haven't really had the car that hot yet, so need to build some confidence.
Polo rad, Astra header tank by the way

run a hose from small outlet on header tank to the stat housing elbow, its an air bleed, apart from that looks ok
Conrod,
on the thermostat housing do you mean the small outlet, which is currently blanked off with a cap?
I forgot to say above that the header tank also hisses a bit as the engine gets up to temp, but doesn't seem to leak - would the extra pipe solve
this too?
Cheers

as my delightfull asistant james says, yup, you may have air trapped round the stat causing it not to open and run hot/pressurise

Hi Nick
Your set-up is much the same as mine. I left the "bleed" cap on the thermo housing, and ran a small dia pipe from the exp tank to the
overflow fitting under the rad cap (my rad is the one supplied by RHSC, only a single core but seems OK) I also have the Astra exp tank. It's
good, a nice size compared to the original Sierra one. One of our members has the original fitted, but it is VERY tight...
Haven't had mine on the road yet but it runs in the drive quite happily, fan cutting in and out correctly, even on very hot days. Longest time
running was about 3/4 hr, no probs. If you have a rad with no cap (I fitted an Austin Maxi blank one) then the next best thing is as suggested,
connect the small pipe to the bleed.

P.S. Just noticed you have the larger pipe from the exp tank tee'd into the hose from the thermo housing to the inlet manifold. On mine, I have
this pipe tee'd into the bottom hose as per the Sierra. Don't know if this will make a difference, but it might....

Hi Pete,
How did you tee the expansion tank pipe into the bottom rad hose?
As you say the Astra expansion tank is a good size and very easy to fit as well.

Hi Nick
A local Locoster (Chris Russell - hope you don't mind me mentioning you Chris) had a tee piece made up for me. The alternative is to obtain a
take-off from Vehicle Wiring Products. Doesn't cost a lot and fits into the hose with a nut on each side of the rubber.
