any experts out there on webers? we have a 2litre zetec running on twin 45 s with an Alpha ignition. The problem is that it will only run reasonably smoothly when set far too rich, otherwise if set a little leaner it coughs, splutters and backfires at low revs, but if "booted" runs ok at highrevs. Have had suggestions of different chokes and running 5 progression holes,but obviously i m no expert and need some advice??
this is identical to the problem i have - the choke smoothes out the spluttering and banging but it doesnt revs as smoothly. All well over 4k. I dont
know the cause or the solution, but if i find out first i will let you know! My approach is to rolling road it soon.
As an aside, would siezed dizzy weights or an absence of a vacuum advance cause this?

Assuming all else is well (i.e. no manifold leaks or carb blockages) it sounds like you've almost certainly got the wrong idle jets in there.

Sounds like 50F9 or 55F8 idles could be a good starting point.

There the chap drilled an extra progression hole, are you sure your progression is set correctly? Its very important that the butterflies are not
uncovering the progression holes when the engine is idleing. their was a very good artical in PPC about it

thanks for all the replies,we'll read through that lot.
found out our inlet gasket was not suitable for carbs,each cylinder should be independant of eachother so we just used jointing compound to act as a gasket and scrapped the ford gasket.Runs PERFECTLY now!
What was you ford one like? Any pics?
Im using a ford one, although i havent got any problems at the moment it would be interesting to see what the difference is.

I fail to see how an incorrect gasket for a Zetec engine would have any relevance to not having a problem with a Pinto engine.
Independent of each other is having a separate carb venturi for each cylinder.
