Just wondered if you are changing the bearings because of the play in the shaft.
THis is normal.

How much play is normal? Is there a max amount?

Danozeman - 5/8/05 at 04:05 PM

I was yes. I did wonder as the bearing is not rough or anything just the play. Is it ok if left then? I assume the spigot will stop it slapping about anyway?

Not sure on how much play is OK, but there is a fair bit off side to side movement if you wiggle the end of the shaft!

Thats what ive got. A bit of wobble if i waggle the tip. (oooh errr missus).

Im not not gonna do it just yet. Got too much else on and want to get my ar looking like a car.

There will always be some movement as the shaft is only supported by a single ball race when not bolted to an engine. The spigot bearing in the end of the crank exists for exactly this reason.

Nice one. 20 quid saved then. Ill leave it and see how it goes.

Cheers chaps.
