Does the urban myth about putting a resistor inline with the airflow meter create more BHP? Has anyone tried this?

I believe this will lean the mixture which will in fact generate more HP. However this is very harmful to the engine. You'll hear the guy say "My engine is running better than it ever has" about two laps before the piston becomes small pieces of piston.

I definitely would not use this method. The perfered method is some sort of re-programmable ECU. In either case you'll want to use a wideband air/fuel measurement when turning.

The airflow meter is a 0-5v 3 wire sensor hotwire and mechanical varriable ressistance type essentially are interchangeable, essentially it is a bridge circuit the output voltage increases with airflow, any change made by fitting an additional ressitor will have a many times larger effect at idle than under load.
